Note: You can use this to change the output of Spotify to headphones, bluetooth speaker or anything else you have attached and not use the default windows audio device. Restarted Spotify and I was able to play music as per normal through the speakers. I closed the sound settings in Windows and closed Spotify. I selected my speakers from the drop down list. In my case Spotify had a blank value for Output device. Default is what Windows is currently using. You will see a list of all the apps that are currently using audio and what their output device is - such as Headphones, speakers, etc (usually it will say “default" for output and “default" for input). On desktop: Click the Menu icon on Spotify. Scroll all the way down the settings to get to the “Advanced sound options” and click “App volume and device preferences” On Android: Open the Google Play Store, find out the Spotify app, and choose UPDATE. In Windows 10, go to the “Sound settings” control panel setting (use the search bar to search for "Sound settings"). Run Spotify (need to have the app running).
I fixed my problem by modifying sound settings in Windows only.
I had a similar error with my Windows 10 system today trying to play music on Spotify. I can get the web player to work if I restart the computer and start playing on web player only. On my phone, Spotify is not connected to any devices. It's a fresh install and has never been installed on this computer before. Every time I open the Spotify app and web player I get the error message:
